A Day at Home #3: Making Meal Prep Work
Real-World Meal Prep Tricks That Actually Stick
Life’s been go-go-go, and as much as I still rave about HelloFresh and our local favorite meal-preppers, Radicato (seriously, both are lifesavers!) I’ve been trying to mix things up by spending a little more time actually cooking at home.
There’s just something so satisfying about opening the fridge (or freezer) and actually seeing it full of healthy options to pull from—especially when I’m scrambling at the last minute. Whether it’s prepping ready-to-go breakfasts, stocking up on freezer-friendly dinners, or finally tackling those viral recipes I’ve been saving for months, having even the loosest meal plan takes the edge off our busiest weeks.
I wanted to share a few things that are making this new routine a little easier (and, honestly, a lot less stressful)—from the meal planning app I can’t stop recommending, to the slow cooker that’s basically taken up permanent countertop residence, to freezer-friendly recipes we’re genuinely excited to eat again. If you’re searching for a way to keep meals interesting—without overcomplicating your life—I hope some of these new favorites earn a spot in your kitchen, too.
3 Things That Finally Got Me to Meal Prep
ReciMe App: After being bombarded non-stop with ads, I finally caved and downloaded the ReciMe app—and now I’m officially obsessed. You can send it recipes from just about anywhere (Instagram, Pinterest, or even those forgotten screenshots buried in your photos) and it transforms them into clean, digital recipe cards. My favorite part? You can add recipes straight to your grocery list, which gets automatically organized. It’s the clean-up-your-digital-recipe-drawer solution you didn’t know you needed—until you try it.
Stealth Health, The Not-Boring Bulk Prep Recipes: I first found Stealth Health on Instagram, tried a couple recipes, and wound up buying their Slow Cooker cookbook. So far, every recipe we’ve tried has been a hit—high in protein, calorie conscious, and all made to freeze and reheat (hello, microwave magic). These are the meals you’ll actually look forward to eating again—and they help save big on our lunch budget.
Must-Have Gadget, Hamilton Beach 10-Quart Slow Cooker: My slow cooker has become the MVP of meal prep, and this extra-large Hamilton Beach version is truly the star player. I love the lock-on lid (no spills on the way to potlucks!) and it’s big enough for any batch-cook scenario I dream up. It’s simple, dependable, and makes attention-free cooking possible—highly recommend for anyone ready to level up their prep routine.
Must Read, Watch, Listen
📚 READ/🎧 LISTEN: Say You’ll Remember Me, Abby Jimenez
I dove into Abby Jimenez’s rom coms thanks to book club’s pick a few months back, and now both Emory and I are obsessed. Her stories are lighthearted, full of feel-good romance, and packed with witty Midwest references that hit close to home—sometimes literally. Say You’ll Remember Me hit so close to home that Emory and I even wove an inside joke from the book into our wedding ceremony music. If you want something comforting and genuinely funny, start here!📺 WATCH (Movie): The Lost Bus (Apple TV)
If you love true stories that keep you guessing, The Lost Bus is a ride. Set during the Northern California wildfires, it’s emotional, suspenseful, and honestly had my anxiety at an all-time high (worth it). Perfect for a night when you’re craving a movie with a powerful payoff and a real-world connection.📺 WATCH (TV): The Last Frontier (Apple TV)
This drama-thriller pulls you in with nonstop suspense and layered mysteries. Every episode demands your full attention—it’s absorbing, fast-paced, and honestly, some of the best “can’t look away” TV we’ve watched in a while.
